The shade at the Shrine of Alra tells you that you have been deceived by the sects and asked if you are willing to end the deception. Once you zone into the instance the task locks. Speak with the shade and follow the dialog. You will need to go to all four pillars and lower the barrier in each. You can do them in any order. In each pillar you need to kill 9 sustainers first, then go downstairs to fight the Mana Ward. The sustainers come in sets of three. The "lumbering" can be rooted, the "stoic" can be mezzed, and the "timid" can be stunned, so you'll likely want to pull the trio by rooting the lumbering, mezzzing the stoic in camp, and killing the timid first.
In the Pillar of Light (northwest) you fight Solinvitare. During this fight you will get an emote that it "begins glowing brilliantly", you must look away until it "begins to dim" or you will be struck by Blinding Luminosity a blind and 20 second mez. Additionally it casts Grasp of the Light, which thwarts your ability to resist stuns and Unwavering Gaze, a single target 6 second stun.
In the Pillar of the Arcane (northeast) you fight Krillionovar. During the fight you'll get an emote that it "glares at you", when it does you need to move away or you will get hit by Arcane Torrent, a 92k dd and 75k mana/endurance drain. Additionally it casts Grasp of the Arcane, which limits your ability to dodge and mitigate damage.
In the Pillar of Black (southeast) you fight Krathavik which has single target rampage, Reaching Shadows, a 10k lifetap, and Grasp of the Black which caps your hp, mana, and endurance at 75%.
In the Pillar of Nature (southwest) you fight Kysinval. It has an 800 pt melee ds / 3000 pt spell ds buff on and casts Grasp of Life which reduces healing by 65%.
When each Mana Ward is killed a spirit spawns and goes to the entrance of the Pillar. Talk to it and say "help" and it will start walking toward the central area, and be ambushed by two "undying fragment". Kill them then finish the walk back to the center, you can then hail them to get more lore if interested. Once all four are saved, hail the shade and open the chest to complete the mission.
